Key Stage 1, years 1-3

In INTA, our year groups are called ‘Stages’ following Cambridge International’s practice, and so Year 1 is called Stage 1. Children must be 5 years old before 1st September in the year they join Stage 1.

Key Stage One is a section of the department corresponding to Stages 1, 2 and 3. So children in this section are aged 5 to 8 years old (usually).

Subjects

In Stages 1 and 2, students have the following subjects; English, Maths, Science, Global Perspectives, Danish, Art, Music, Sport and PSHE. In Stage 3 students have the following subjects; English, Maths, Science, Global perspectives, Danish, Art, Music, Gymnastics/Swimming and PSHE.

Location

Key Stage 1, Stages 1 to 3, are based in the main school buildings at Gammel Kærvej 28, in the new building, Clementhus.  This new building was opened in 2020 and is situated next to the playground for the infants as well as the buildings housing the Danish infant classes.

Since 2022, we have had a new playground outside this building for the younger classes.

The School Day

For students in these classes the day starts at 08.00 and usually finishes by 13.40. Each class in Key Stage 1 has between 28-30  lessons per week, each lesson lasting 45 minutes. While all lessons integrate activities suitable for children of this age, the emphasis over the three years is on establishing English language comprehension, oral skills, English literacy, mathematics, and general social skills. All lessons are taught in English apart from the Danish language lessons.

SFO

All students aged 5-9 (Stages 1 to 4) can attend the SFO before and after-school service for an additional charge. SFO runs from 6.45 to 8.00 in the mornings and 12.00 to 16.30 in the afternoons.

Food!

Students bring their own food to school in Denmark and eat a cold ‘packed lunch’. There is the opportunity to order milk and sandwiches from school suppliers.

School Uniform

We do not have a school uniform, other than to ask that children come to school in clean, respectable clothing suitable for the weather. Students should have additional suitable clothes and footwear for sport.

Books and Resources

The school provides all text and exercise books. Students bring their own pencil cases and math equipment. They also need sports clothes and swimming clothes when these subjects are timetabled.
